Sisil Pan Dansala – සිසිල් පැන් දන්සල 2025

As the sun softened over Kolonnawa on Poson Poya Day, 10th June 2025, the streets carried more than the quiet devotion of worshippers returning from temple. They carried something gentler, simpler, and deeply human — kindness served cold, in a paper cup.

The Sisil Pan Dansala, organized by the Leo Club of Kolonnawa, marked the very first service project of the new Leoistic year. More than a refreshment stall, it was a declaration of purpose: this year begins with service.

Why the Sisil Pan Dansala Mattered

Poson Poya is a time rooted in reflection, generosity, and connection. It commemorates the arrival of Buddhism in Sri Lanka — a reminder that meaningful change often begins quietly, through compassion and giving.

Choosing Poson to launch our first project was intentional. The Sisil Pan Dansala allowed us to:

  • Serve the community at a moment of spiritual significance
  • Introduce Leoism through action, not explanation
  • Begin the year grounded in humility and togetherness

For many in Kolonnawa, this was their first encounter with the Leo Club. And instead of banners or speeches, we chose something far more powerful — presence.

How the Project Came Together

This project was built entirely from within the club.

Under the leadership of Leo Menura Saknath, the Project Chairperson, every Leo — from senior members to the newest prospects — contributed time, effort, and heart. There were:

  • No external sponsors
  • No large funding
  • No shortcuts

Just shared responsibility.

From sourcing ingredients and preparing the chilled fruit cordial, to setting up at Gothatuwa Sri Gnanawimalaramaya Temple, every detail reflected unity. Paper cups were donated. Ice was carefully stored. Smiles were never in short supply.

At 4:00 PM, we began serving.

By the end of the evening, over 200 people had been refreshed — physically by the cool drink, and emotionally by the warmth of interaction.

More Than a Dansala

The true impact revealed itself in quiet moments.

A woman paused to ask, “Are you doing this again next year?”
A young boy clutched his cup and whispered to his mother, “Can I join them one day?”

That was the project’s real success.

Not the number served.
But the curiosity sparked.
The connection formed.
The seeds quietly planted for the future.

A Leoistic Way to Begin the Year

Leoism often speaks of leadership, scale, and legacy. But sometimes, leadership looks like standing by the roadside, handing a cup of chilled fruit drink to a stranger, expecting nothing in return.

The Sisil Pan Dansala was not just our first project.
It was a promise.

A promise that:

  • Service will always come first
  • Every member will begin by giving
  • Kolonnawa will not just be our name, but our responsibility

This is how the Leo Club of Kolonnawa chose to begin the year — not loudly, but meaningfully.

And if this is how we start, the journey ahead can only grow stronger.
