Project Namaskara: Seeing with Heart

The beginning of a new Leoistic and Lions year is traditionally marked not just by plans and promises, but by reflection, gratitude, and service rooted in values. Project Namaskara: Seeing with Heart, organized jointly by the Leo Club of Kolonnawa and the Lions Club of Kolonnawa, embodied this spirit by placing religious observance at its heart—paired with a meaningful act of community service.

Held on 27th July 2025 at the sacred premises of Kotikawatta Sri Nagarukkaramaya Temple, the project brought together devotion, compassion, and action, marking the new service year with humility and purpose.

A Spiritual Beginning to a New Year of Service

Project Namaskara was conducted in alignment with a religious blessing ceremony organized by Lions Region 2B, symbolizing a respectful and value-driven start to the Leoistic and Lions year. The ceremony served as a moment of collective reflection—seeking blessings for the year ahead, for the strength to serve sincerely, and for guidance in uplifting communities with compassion.

By grounding the initiative in spiritual observance, the project reinforced a core belief shared by both Leos and Lions: that service is most meaningful when it flows from gratitude, mindfulness, and respect for human dignity.

Service Inspired by Devotion

Alongside the religious ceremony, a community-focused service initiative was carried out to extend the blessings of the day beyond the temple premises. Recognizing the challenges faced by elderly members of the Kotikawatta community—particularly limited access to affordable vision care—the project included the distribution of free spectacles to those in need.

This act of service was not separate from the religious observance, but a direct extension of it—transforming blessings into action and prayers into tangible impact.

Restoring Vision, Restoring Dignity

For many senior citizens, declining eyesight had become a barrier to independence, safety, and everyday comfort. Through Project Namaskara, elders were given the opportunity to regain clarity in their daily lives—allowing them to read, move confidently, and engage more fully with their surroundings.

Each pair of spectacles represented more than visual correction. It symbolized care, respect, and the belief that every individual deserves to experience life with dignity and confidence.

A United Leo–Lion Effort

The project was made possible through the collective efforts of the Leo Club of Kolonnawa and the Lions Club of Kolonnawa, working together as one extended family of service. Lions contributed resources and guidance, while Leos supported coordination, beneficiary assistance, and on-ground execution—ensuring that the service was carried out with warmth, patience, and respect.

This collaboration highlighted the strength of intergenerational service and the shared values that bind Leos and Lions together.

Impact of Project Namaskara

  • 145 elderly beneficiaries received free spectacles
  • 150 donated spectacles were directed toward community need
  • A religious ceremony marked the official spiritual beginning of the Leoistic and Lions year
  • Countless moments of joy, relief, and renewed confidence were witnessed

Beyond numbers, the impact was deeply human—seen in smiles, emotional gratitude, and the quiet joy of clearer sight.

More Than a Project — A Principle

Project Namaskara demonstrated that service does not always need to be grand to be transformative. Sometimes, it begins with a prayer, followed by a simple act of kindness that changes someone’s everyday life.

By placing religious observance at the center and aligning service with spiritual intention, the Leo Club of Kolonnawa and the Lions Club of Kolonnawa reaffirmed a timeless principle: true service begins with humility and flows outward into action.

As the new Leoistic and Lions year begins, Project Namaskara stands as a reminder of what lies at the heart of service—respect, compassion, and the commitment to see others not just with our eyes, but with our hearts.
