Lions Club of Kolonnawa
At the heart of the Leo Club of Kolonnawa lies its guiding light—the Lions Club of Kolonnawa. With a legacy of service, mentorship, and unwavering support, the Lions Club has been the foundation upon which Leos grow, thrive, and lead. Together, they embody a shared mission of creating lasting change and inspiring future generations.

A Legacy of Service and Leadership
Every active Leo Club has a guiding Lions Club, and for us, the Leo Club of Kolonnawa, this foundation of inspiration is none other than the Lions Club of Kolonnawa. With decades of impactful community projects and unwavering commitment, this Lions Club has been our pillar of strength and a shining example of leadership.
The Origins of Greatness
The Lions Club of Kolonnawa was extended in December 1979 by the Lions Club of Cinnamon Gardens under the then Lions District 306-B. Under the guidance of Lion Kumar De Silva and the support of philanthropists like Mr. Wamasena Godawatte and Mr. Dayananda Perera, the club began its journey. Officially chartered on May 1, 1980, its founding was led by Charter President Lion M.D.W. Jayawardena, alongside Secretary Lion K. Liyanage and 23 charter members.
Though none of the original members remain with us today, their vision and dedication continue to inspire.

Breaking Boundaries
Over its rich history, the Lions Club of Kolonnawa has evolved, serving under four districts—306-A, 306-B, 306-C, and 306-C1. A true pioneer, the club has been recognized for conducting meetings and publishing bulletins in Sinhala, making its initiatives accessible to local communities.
The Lions Club of Kolonnawa also made history in Multiple District 306 by inducting the late Raja Gajadheera, the first wheelchair-bound Lion.
Continuous Impact
The Lions Club of Kolonnawa has touched countless lives through longstanding projects such as:
- A medical clinic for malnourished children, established by Lion Dhanapala Athukorala in 1986, which continues to this day.
- The Greta-Kramer Health Clinic, providing accessible healthcare.
- Annual support for Dhaham Pasal students, offering essentials like books and uniforms.
- Breakfast and essentials for the elderly and disabled.
Their efforts have earned them prestigious accolades, including being declared a Model Lions Club (2021/2022) and winning the Best Club in District 306-C1 for the first time in their history.lub in District 306-C1 for the first time in their history.

Leadership and Vision
The club has nurtured visionary leaders, with Lions like Chaminda Kuruppuarachchi, Jayasiri Andaraweera, and Manoj Gallage recognized as Lions of the Year. Many have also served in key cabinet roles at the district level.
Today, the legacy is upheld by the current President, Lion Barana Ranasen, a past president of the Leo Club of Kolonnawa, symbolizing the strong bond between our two clubs.
A Bright Future
As the guiding Lions Club for the Leo Club of Kolonnawa, the Lions Club of Kolonnawa continues to mentor, support, and inspire the next generation of leaders. Their innovative spirit and dedication to service ensure they remain a cornerstone of the community.
The Lions Club of Kolonnawa truly embodies the Lions’ motto, “We Serve,” standing as a beacon of hope and inspiration for all who follow in its footsteps.
