Lions, Leos, and Leo-Lions
Lions Clubs sponsor Leo Clubs, offering mentorship, resources, and guidance to support Leo activities. Both groups work together to serve communities.
Leo-Lions are former Leos who transition to Lions Clubs while maintaining a unique connection to the Leo program. This program allows them to stay actively engaged in the Leo community until the age of 35, combining youthful enthusiasm with professional expertise.
To qualify, a Leo must have served at least one year as a Leo before joining the Leo-Lion program. This pathway provides an excellent opportunity to continue making a meaningful impact while advancing leadership and service initiatives.
Yes, anyone aged 18 or older can join a Lions Club directly. Starting as a Leo, however, helps build experience and leadership skills for a future role in Lions Clubs.
Absolutely! Lions and Leos frequently collaborate on service projects, leadership initiatives, and events, maximizing their collective impact.
Governing Structure
Leo Clubs are led by an executive board, including positions such as president, secretary, and treasurer. They operate under the guidance of a Leo Advisor assigned by the sponsoring Lions Club.
A Leo District consists of multiple Leo Clubs grouped geographically for administrative efficiency. For example, Leo District 306 C1 spans areas from Colombo to Trincomalee.
Multiple District 306 is the national governing body for Leos in Sri Lanka, overseeing six districts: A1, A2, B1, B2, C1, and C2. It fosters collaboration and national leadership development.
Leadership positions are typically held by members of Omega Leo Clubs (18–30 years). However, Alpha Leos (12–18 years) may take on junior leadership roles in Alpha Clubs.
The minimum age to join a Lions Club is 18, allowing young adults to step directly into Lions leadership roles.
However, we recommend starting with a Leo Club as it provides a solid foundation in leadership skills, community service, and an understanding of the Lions movement.
By joining a Leo Club first, you gain valuable experience in a youth-focused environment, preparing you for a successful transition to Lions leadership.
